Video: They Think It’s Cute When Lion Approaches Their Baby But That Doesn’t last Long

A family took their baby daughter to the zoo, because they really wanted to give her a real life taste of the wildlife of the world. While things were going well and the baby was getting a chance to interact with the animals and see them from a distance, the parents thought their daughter would get a really good lesson when the massive male lion approached the GLASS in his enclosure.

In the video below, the curious infant looks through the GLASS at the lion. But the massive creature sees only one thing: a mid-afternoon snack…
In the video, you can hear the mother saying, “He wants to eat our baby.”
When the video starts, you’ll see unsuspecting infant standing near the lion’s glass with a hooded sweatshirt on. The lion rears up and starts scratching his massive claws against the glass in an effort to tear down the barricade.

“He wants her. Look,” mom says.

The baby helplessly falls to her knees and struggles to stand up. The lion looks on seeming only to think, “Wow, this would be such an easy meal. Just take away this glass.”

The massive predator paces back and forth trying to figure out how he can get beyond the glass and get the baby in his stomach. He sure looks like a hungry guy!

“Holy CRAP,” mom says. “He wants to eat our baby.”

Although mom thinks the lion is after her flesh and blood, other people on the internet think the lion has friendlier intentions. They say that he is just trying to play with the baby.

According to an article from Slate, Craig Packer of the Lion Research Center at the University of Minnesota said many lions like to play with their food before eating it.

Packer says, “some of the lions look quite playful in their attempts” and that “lions and cheetah will spend several minutes playing with wildebeest calves or gazelle fawns before finally chomping them.”

The lion expert added:

“Predators generally treat calves/fawns/babies differently from adults because they are such easy prey; there’s no real chance of escape, so what’s the hurry?”
Since the viral clip was uploaded in 2011, the public has viewed in more than 19 million times.

In the clip, the baby was just 10-months old. Now, 5-years later we wonder if this lion encounter left a lasting traumatic experience…
